Product Description

CR column load cell overview

The CR is a multi-column compression-only load cell with a compact cylindrical
body, designed for accurate downward force measurement in testing machines, process systems, and industrial
weighing applications where a low-profile, high-capacity sensor is needed. Its multi-column internal
structure distributes the load evenly across multiple sensing elements, delivering high stability and
accuracy in a small footprint. Aluminum construction is used on the 50 kgf and 200 kgf models, and alloy
steel on the 2,000 kgf and 3,000 kgf models, allowing the same form factor to cover a broad range of
applications. Threaded connections on both the top and bottom faces allow the CR to be bolted directly into
a machine structure or mounted on a base plate without additional fixtures. With ±0.03% nonlinearity, a 150%
safe overload rating, and a 2.75 m cable, the CR is a reliable choice wherever a cylindrical column sensor
is required. It is a direct drop-in replacement for the Tedea 1263, HBM PW24, and NMB C2L1.

Typical applications

The CR column load cell is commonly specified for compression-only force
measurement where a compact cylindrical form factor, high capacity, and direct bolt-down mounting are
required.

Testing machines and force test rigs
The CR's cylindrical body and threaded top and bottom connections allow
it to be installed directly in compression testing machines, hydraulic press test rigs, and load
frame systems. Its multi-column internal design provides stable, repeatable compression readings
even under high or sustained loads.

Tank and vessel weighing
Mounted beneath vessel support legs or load transfer points, the CR
provides accurate compression readings for tank and vessel weighing systems. The compact
cylindrical profile fits in spaces where larger platform-style load cells cannot, making it a
good fit for retrofitting existing vessels.

Batching and process weighing
The CR is well suited for batching and process control applications
where a compact, robust compression sensor needs to be mounted beneath a platform, hopper leg,
or feed system component. Its high stability and repeatable output support accurate dosing and
ingredient control under continuous cyclic loading.

Compression force measurement
The CR's cylindrical body and threaded top and bottom connections suit
it for inline compression measurement in mechanical systems and structural assemblies. It
installs cleanly between two surfaces to measure the actual compressive force being transmitted,
with high stability across the full capacity range from 50 kgf to 3,000 kgf.

OEM integration and custom builds
The CR's standardized cylindrical form factor and threaded connections
make it straightforward to integrate into custom OEM machines, industrial scale assemblies, and
mechanical systems requiring a self-contained column sensor that bolts directly into the
structure without additional mounting plates.

Force monitoring and feedback systems
Compatible with standard analog weight indicators, transmitters, and DAQ
systems via its 2.0 or 3.0 mV/V output signal. Suitable for real-time compression force
monitoring, overload detection, and process feedback in industrial weighing and force control
systems.

Technical notes

Installation and mounting

The CR is a compression-only load cell and must not be used in tension. Load
must be applied concentrically along the vertical axis through the threaded top connection. The
mounting surface must be flat, rigid, and level. Off-center or eccentric loading will degrade
accuracy and may damage the multi-column sensing element. For multi-cell installations, mount one CR
at each support point and connect outputs through a summing junction box before feeding a single
signal to the indicator. Threaded connections use M10x1.5 on 50 kgf and 200 kgf models and M20x1.5
on 2,000 kgf and 3,000 kgf models.

System integration

The CR operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a
2.0 mV/V output on models up to 500 kg and a 3.0 mV/V output on models from 1 t to 5 t. It is
compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog input, or load cell conditioner accepting
a mV/V bridge input. For multi-cell systems, a load cell summing junction box is used to balance and
combine outputs before passing a single signal to the indicator.
