DBSL industrial pancake load cell overview

The DBSL is a heavy-duty alloy steel pancake load cell designed for
compression-only force measurement in high-capacity industrial applications where a low-profile,
large-diameter sensor is needed. Its wide, flat disc shape distributes load evenly across the sensing
element, providing high stability and accurate readings even under large eccentric or off-center loads —
making it better suited to demanding real-world mounting conditions than column-type load cells of
equivalent capacity. A nickel-plated finish protects the alloy steel body against corrosion for long service
life in industrial environments. Available in capacities from 2 t to 30 t, with a central threaded bore on
the top face and eight bolt-down holes on the flange for secure mounting, the DBSL is widely used in testing
machines, truck scales, and large bin and hopper weighing systems.

Typical applications

The DBSL is commonly specified for high-capacity compression force measurement
in industrial weighing, testing, and process systems where a large-diameter, low-profile pancake sensor
provides advantages over column or shear beam designs.

Testing machines and hydraulic presses
The DBSL's central threaded bore and wide flange allow it to be
installed directly in compression testing machines, hydraulic presses, and structural test
frames, where its large-diameter design resists off-center loading better than column-type
sensors at equivalent capacities.

Truck scales and axle weighing
Widely used as the sensing element in truck scale and axle weigher
installations. The DBSL's large footprint and flat mounting face suit it to the high-capacity,
high-stability demands of commercial vehicle weighing, where long-term accuracy and resistance
to dynamic loading are critical.

Large bin and hopper weighing
The DBSL's low-profile disc shape and bolt-down flange make it well
suited for mounting beneath large bin and hopper support structures where vertical clearance is
limited. Multiple cells are installed at each support leg and summed through a junction box for
total vessel weight.

Batching and process weighing
Used in high-capacity batching and process control systems where large
raw material quantities are measured before blending or processing. The DBSL provides the
capacity range and stability required for industrial batching at the tonne scale, with
consistent accuracy across repeated loading cycles.

OEM integration and custom weighing systems
The DBSL's standardized pancake geometry and bolt-down flange mounting
make it straightforward to integrate into custom OEM weighing systems and heavy industrial
structures. Optional load button and tension base accessories are available for installations
requiring specific loading configurations.

Force monitoring and feedback systems
Compatible with standard analog weight indicators, transmitters, and DAQ
systems via its 3.0 mV/V output signal. Suitable for real-time high-capacity compression force
monitoring, overload detection, and process feedback in industrial weighing and force control
systems.


Technical notes

Installation and mounting

The DBSL is a compression-only load cell and must not be used in tension
without the optional tension base accessory. Load is applied concentrically through the central
threaded bore on the top face, and the cell is bolted down via eight flange holes on the bottom
face. The mounting surface must be flat, rigid, and level. While the pancake design is more tolerant
of off-center loading than column-type sensors, eccentric loading should still be minimized for best
accuracy. For multi-cell installations, connect outputs through a summing junction box before
feeding a single signal to the indicator. Thread sizes are M16x1.5 on 2 t to 5 t models, M32x1.5 on
10 t to 20 t models, and M40x1.5 on the 30 t model.

System integration

The DBSL operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a
3.0 mV/V analog output signal. It is compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog
input, or load cell conditioner accepting a mV/V bridge input. Cable length is 6 m on standard
models and 10 m on longer-lead versions. For multi-cell systems, a load cell summing junction box is
used to balance and combine outputs before passing a single signal to the indicator. Optional load
button and tension base accessories are available separately.
