Product Description

DBS double-ended shear beam load cell overview

The DBS is a nickel-plated alloy steel double-ended shear beam load cell designed for compression-only weighing in high-capacity industrial applications. Unlike single-ended shear beam cells, the DBS is bolted securely at both ends and receives the load applied downward at its center, which gives it significantly better resistance to off-center and eccentric loading. This makes it the preferred choice for heavy-duty floor scale, warehouse, and batching system installations where platform alignment cannot always be guaranteed and stability under uneven loading is critical. The nickel-plated surface protects the alloy steel body against corrosion for long service life in industrial environments. Available in capacities from 2,500 lb to 75,000 lb, with cable lengths of 6 m, 10 m, or 20 m.

Typical applications

The DBS is commonly specified for high-capacity compression weighing in floor scale, warehouse, and batching applications where the double-ended mounting geometry provides superior stability over single-ended designs.

Floor scales and platform scales
The DBS is widely used in heavy-duty floor and platform scale construction. Its double-ended mounting provides inherently better resistance to off-center loading than single-ended shear beam designs, making it well suited for large-deck industrial scales where load placement cannot always be controlled.

Warehouse and inventory scales
Used as the sensing element in high-capacity warehouse and inventory scale systems where large, heavy loads are weighed repeatedly. The DBS provides stable, repeatable readings under demanding loading conditions and is compatible with the DBS weigh module mount for complete scale assembly.

Batching and process weighing
The DBS is well suited for high-capacity batching and process control applications where large quantities of raw material are measured before blending, mixing, or processing. Its high stability and repeatable output support accurate dosing across repeated loading cycles at the klb scale.

Heavy industrial and truck scale systems
At capacities up to 30,000 lb per cell, the DBS is suited for heavy industrial weighing systems including truck scale components and axle weighers where high capacity, long-term stability, and resistance to dynamic loading are required.

OEM and custom scale builds
The DBS is available as a standalone load cell or as part of complete DBS weigh module kits, which include load cells, mounts, junction box, and cable for single, 3-cell, or 4-cell scale installations. This makes it straightforward to build complete heavy-duty weighing systems without sourcing individual components separately.

Force monitoring and feedback systems
Compatible with standard analog weight indicators, transmitters, and DAQ systems via its 3.0 mV/V output signal. Suitable for real-time high-capacity compression force monitoring, overload detection, and process feedback in industrial weighing and force control systems.

Technical notes

Installation and mounting

The DBS is bolted securely at both ends using mounting holes on each end of the beam, with the load applied downward at the center of the cell body. Both mounting surfaces must be flat, rigid, and level. The double-ended design requires that both mounting ends are supported and fixed — do not leave one end floating. For multi-cell platform scale installations, use one DBS at each support point and sum outputs through a junction box. The DBS weigh module mount is available as an accessory for complete self-contained installations.

System integration

The DBS operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a 3.0 mV/V analog output signal. It is compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog input, or load cell conditioner accepting a mV/V bridge input. Cable length options are 6 m, 10 m, or 20 m. For multi-cell systems, a load cell summing junction box is used to balance and combine outputs before passing a single signal to the indicator.
