BSA S-beam load cell overview

The BSA is a compact alloy steel S-type load cell designed for accurate tension and compression force measurement in light capacity applications from 50 lb up to 200 lb. Its single-ended S-beam geometry and threaded connection points allow it to be installed directly into a load path without additional mounting hardware, making it a practical choice for batching scales, hanging tension links, and OEM equipment where space is at a premium. With a 3.05 mV/V output, IP67 environmental protection, and a 150% safe overload rating, the BSA delivers stable, repeatable performance in both industrial and laboratory settings. It is a direct drop-in replacement for the Rice Lake RL20000, Artech 20210, and RTI 363 load cells.

Typical applications

Batching scales and batching systems
The BSA threads directly into the load path of batching scales and weigh systems, providing stable and repeatable readings in blending, mixing, and ingredient dispensing applications where consistent accuracy is required under cyclic loading.
Tank, hopper, and vessel weighing
Used as a tension link in overhead hanging tank and hopper systems. The BSA's compact S-beam profile and threaded ends allow it to be installed directly in the suspension load path, eliminating the need for separate brackets in many configurations.
Tension and compression force measurement
The S-beam geometry handles pure axial loading in both directions cleanly, making the BSA suitable for tensile test rigs, pull testers, and inline force measurement setups where a compact, affordable sensor is needed at lower force ranges.
Suspended weighing and hanging scales
With threaded connections on both ends and a compact footprint, the BSA integrates easily into hanging scale assemblies, overhead weighing frames, and suspended platform systems in the 50 lb to 200 lb range.

Technical notes

Installation and alignment

S-type load cells require axial alignment between the two threaded connections. Off-axis or side loading will degrade accuracy and may cause premature fatigue. For best results, use swivel rod ends or clevis attachments at both connection points to allow self-alignment under load. All threaded rods must be inserted a minimum of one full thread diameter into each end to ensure structural integrity.

System integration

The BSA operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a 3.05 mV/V analog output signal. It is compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog input, or load cell conditioner accepting a mV/V bridge input. For multi-cell systems, a load cell summing junction box is used to balance and combine outputs before passing a single signal to the indicator.
