SBSB single-ended shear beam load cell overview

The SBSB is a stainless steel, hermetically sealed single-ended shear beam load cell engineered for compression-only force measurement in demanding industrial environments where the alloy steel SBS is not sufficient. Its fully welded stainless steel construction provides superior corrosion resistance and long-term signal stability in washdown, chemical, food processing, and outdoor applications where moisture, cleaning agents, or harsh environmental conditions are present. Sharing the same single-ended cantilever geometry as the SBS, the SBSB bolts at one end while the platform or load structure bears down on the free end, making it a direct stainless steel upgrade path for existing SBS installations. Available from 1,000 lb to 10,000 lb, the SBSB is a direct drop-in replacement for the most widely used stainless steel shear beam models on the market.

Typical applications

The SBSB is specified wherever the SBS geometry is required but the environment demands stainless steel construction — washdown facilities, food processing, chemical plants, and outdoor installations.

Floor scales and platform scales
The SBSB is the stainless steel choice for floor and platform scale construction in environments requiring washdown capability or corrosion resistance. Multiple cells are mounted at each corner of the scale deck, summed through a junction box to produce a combined weight reading.
Washdown and corrosive environments
The hermetically welded stainless steel construction makes the SBSB the preferred choice for food processing plants, dairy facilities, chemical environments, and outdoor installations where regular high-pressure washdown with water, steam, or cleaning agents is standard practice.
Batching and blending systems
Commonly used in blending, mixing, and batching systems in food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries where stainless steel construction is mandated by hygiene standards. Delivers stable, repeatable readings under continuous cyclic loading without corrosion-related drift.

Technical notes

Installation and mounting

The SBSB mounts via bolt holes at the fixed end, with the load applied downward at the free (cantilevered) end. The mounting surface must be flat, rigid, and level for accurate readings. Side loading and off-axis forces should be minimized. Use check rods or anti-rotation restraints where horizontal forces or vibration are present. For multi-cell platform scale installations, mount one SBSB at each support point and use a summing junction box to balance and combine the outputs before connecting to the indicator.

System integration

The SBSB operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a 2.0 or 3.0 mV/V analog output signal. It is compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog input, or load cell conditioner accepting a mV/V bridge input. For multi-cell installations, a load cell summing junction box is used to balance and combine signals from each cell before passing a single output to the indicator.
