The certificates
Certified by capacity. Not by series.
NTEP evaluates a load cell as a type and lists the capacities it covers. That is why only part of each family is on this page.
What NTEP is
NTEP is the National Type Evaluation Program run by the National Conference on Weights and Measures. It evaluates a weighing component as a type (not each unit) against NIST Handbook 44, and issues a Certificate of Conformance describing exactly what was tested. Where a scale determines a price or a quantity in commerce, every element in the chain needs one.
The two certificates
The BSS carries NTEP CoC 97-028 on capacities from 250 lb through 2,500 lb. The SBS carries NTEP CoC 95-146 from 1,000 through 10,000 lb. The store’s option labels agree: exactly those ratings are marked NTEP.
Above and below those bands, both families are the same part, built the same way to the same specification. They sit outside the evaluated type, though, so a scale built on them cannot be sealed for trade however well it performs.
