BSH bending beam load cell overview

The BSH is a stainless steel single-ended shear beam load cell designed for compression-only force measurement in demanding industrial environments. Its cantilever bending beam construction allows the sensor to be bolted at one end while the load is applied at the free end, making it one of the most common load cell geometries used in platform and bench scale platforms, filling and packing machines, and process weighing systems. With ±0.03% nonlinearity, hermetic welded sealing, and a 150% safe overload rating, the BSH delivers high stability and repeatable performance in wet, washdown, and chemically aggressive conditions where a fully sealed stainless steel sensor is required. Available in capacities from 10 kg to 500 kg.

Typical applications

The BSH bending beam load cell is commonly specified for single-point compression weighing in platform scales, filling machines, and process systems requiring a compact, sealed sensor.

Tank, hopper, and vessel weighing
Mounted beneath vessel support legs or weigh modules, the BSH provides stable, accurate compression readings for tank and hopper systems. Its hermetically sealed stainless steel body withstands washdown and chemical cleaning without signal drift.
Filling, packing, and batching systems
The BSH's single-ended cantilever design is ideal for filling and packing machines, batching systems, and loss-in-weight feeders where one end is fixed to the machine frame and the weighing platform loads the free end from above.
Platform and bench scales
Widely used as the sensing element in multi-cell floor scales and bench scale platforms. Multiple BSH load cells are mounted at each corner or support point of the scale deck and summed through a junction box to produce a combined weight reading.
OEM and custom scale builds
The BSH's compact profile and standard bolt-down mounting pattern make it straightforward to integrate into OEM scale assemblies and custom weighing fixtures. Its stainless steel body is compatible with food-grade and pharmaceutical environments.
Belt scales and conveyor weighing
Suitable for belt scales, conveyor weigh frames, and in-motion weighing applications where a robust, hermetically sealed bending beam sensor is needed to handle continuous dynamic loading without moisture ingress or signal degradation.
Harsh and washdown environments
The hermetically welded stainless steel construction and high protection class make the BSH well-suited for food processing, dairy, chemical, and outdoor applications where regular washdown with water, steam, or cleaning agents is required.

Technical notes

Installation and mounting

The BSH mounts via bolt holes at the fixed end, with the load applied downward at the free (cantilevered) end. For accurate readings, the mounting surface must be flat, rigid, and level. Side loading and off-axis forces should be minimized — use check rods or anti-rotation devices in applications subject to horizontal forces or vibration. For multi-cell platform scale configurations, mount one BSH at each support point and use a summing junction box to balance and combine the outputs.

System integration

The BSH operates at a rated excitation of 10V DC/AC (15V max) and produces a 2.0 mV/V analog output signal. It is compatible with any standard weight indicator, PLC analog input, or load cell conditioner accepting a mV/V bridge input. For multi-cell platform scale installations, a load cell summing junction box is used to balance and combine the signals from each corner cell before passing a single output to the indicator.
